Selling Tips
You only get one chance to make a great first impression. If your home stands out among similarly priced houses, it will be the one that sells! The following suggestions for preparing your home to sell are worth your time and attention:
Preparing Your Home to Sell:
Exterior
- Keep lawn trimmed and groomed; watered and green
- Trim trees and shrubs; edge flowerbeds, weed and mulch
- Sweep, clean driveways and walks. Remove any mold or mildew
- Paint in good condition and clean, especially front door
- Freshen paint/stain on fences and decks
- Check that all door latches and locks open properly and easily
- Polish all brass and other metal trim
- Roof in good condition
- Repair screens and screen doors
- Test all exterior lighting
- Remove clutter in yard and driveway
- Add colorful flowers in pots by front door, if appropriate

Interior
Garage or Workshop Items should be neatly stored in shelving or wall units.
Get rid of debris, old paint cans, rags, and newspapers.
Paint or clean the garage and floor.
Store oversized equipment, toys and tools off site to allow space for homebuyer to visualize their vehicle or workbench. House
- Keep living areas clean, polished, neutral and inviting
- Clean all closets and cupboards. Box and store excess items off site
- Your home should smell nice, not overwhelmed by scents or odors.
- Furniture arrangement should create a spacious, open atmosphere. Consider storing excess furniture off site
- Make all beds, arrange couch cushions, polish glass, dust shelves, vacuum carpets and touch-up walls with paint or spackling as necessary
- All wallpaper should be clean and adhere smoothly to the walls. Re-glue if necessary
- Keep windows clean and sparkling throughout the home
